You can float/fly over countries and look through the floor, that isn't exciting? Well to me it is anyway.

I didn't know you could look through the floor, that's pretty cool. Other than that, nothing that the Montgolfier brothers haven't covered before.. c;

Don't get me wrong. It IS great. If I could have thousands of floating hotels I would do.

But in terms of cost effectiveness, it's dumb. It's like everyone having professor X chairs, except the money would be better suited elsewhere.

The only way these floating hotels could ever 'advance humanity' is if, to make them work, the engineers have invented one or more revolutionary systems which could be re-purposed for more scientific endeavours.
If they are merely using existing technology to stick a few rich kids in the sky for a night, there's really nothing of much academic interest to it.

Well they have made a working concept of a hovering car, slightly unrelated, but that will certainly advance us, it's also a good solution for congestion.

I have no problem with money being spent on advancing technology and all that jazz, but floating hotels is somewhere near the bottom of the importance pile. Stick to potentially important stuff please (i.e. stuff that has use beyond "ooh I can see through the floor to the ground way below, how kewl") and spend the money spent on shit like this on starving people or something.

True, I agree, but you say it as though the government is prioritising funding in hotels, which isn't so. This is a private company setup for this purpose, there was no decision between hotels and saving cancer. There are companies and government bodies working on important things too. It's not an "only one" situation, we can have as many things we want, so long as there are people to cater it.

The argument that they should have started a more useful company doesn't make sense. You could say to most companies that they're useless and should have started a company in saving us from cancer or something.

This is an entirely private project.

Surely samsung can find better ways to invest in technology other than hospitality amongst the clouds?

Yes, but when you start questioning things like this, you could easily move onto questioning creating games etc.

I actually like the idea. Flying/Floating on water cities would definitely be cool and would solve the problem of overcrowding in congested cities. We'll end up doing it eventually if it takes 50 years or 500 years, so there's not really much point complaining about the concept since it's both interesting and potentially useful.

Also, plans for man-Mars missions are still going ahead and costing billions. It isn't a small job, we should do it before 2020.
Good luck with that, the nation that would of been manning the shuttle crafts is no longer able to do it, GG Obama.

They're pretty to look at. They're versatile. You can honk them. You can slap them. You can stick your willy in between them. You can bury your head in them. They produce milk, ideal for a post-coital drink. When accompanied with clothes you can stick a pen or other bric-a-brac between them for storage purposes. They're hypnotic. When in the middle of sexytime and they're shaking and bouncing all over the shop, like some sort of beautiful milky ocean or two boob-shaped aeroplanes experiencing major turbulance.

Just like an elevator, just stationary, much bigger and much more luxurious.
I like it.

I would find it exciting too. I like the idea of these floating hotels

O, here
Will I set up my everlasting rest,
And shake the yoke of inauspicious stars
From this world-wearied flesh. Eyes, look your last!
Arms, take your last embrace! and, lips, O you
The doors of breath, seal with a righteous kiss
A dateless bargain to engrossing death!
